Brief: Create and interactive exhibition based on a topic you are passionate about
About one garbage truck of plastics trash is disposed of in the ocean every minute (Oceana 2019, 0:00:16). That plastic is then scattered throughout the ocean, everylayer, slowly becoming microplastics; this “plastic makes up 80% of marine debris” (ICUN 2021). Micro plastics have been found in fish and consistently throughout the different layers of the ocean. More recently studies have found that there are micro plastics present in human blood streams as well as in the air(Carrington 2022 & Oceana 2019, 0:01:23). We use things that contain plastic every day and thus it has entered our food and bodies. At this point we aren’t aware of what the specific bodily consequences will be, however we do know it’s causing a great deal of harm to the environment.
For this project I want to create a pamphlet and stickers with a QR code feature to educate viewers of the effects their choices have on marine life. I made stickers in bulk because it’s less waste and people generally are more drawn to stickers than pamphlets. The QR code on the back of the stickers will show a sequence of four digital posters that display the information on the pamphlet. Thus if someone only takes a sticker they still have access to the important information. Such as: tips on how to reduce plastic use or positive plastic habits such as bottle bricks, packing plastic into larger plastic bottles that can then be used to build with.
