Book:
A Touch to Remember is a book that revolves around touch, how it works as a sense, and plays into memory and experience. The book was created with the intention of being able to navigate its contents through touch by using tabs for the sections, braille for page numbers, and different paper types.I used uncoated paper, glossy paper, and acetate throughout my book. The paper choices were to help create clearer sections that can be felt as well as create a layering effect with the bitmapped images printed on acetate and placed over the text. The images, underlines, and type choice reflect the cell nature of braille by using things such as bitmapping, square dotted lines, etc. I also added pink as a spot color because it is associated with tenderness, sensitivity, humanity or human skin, and also paired well with the nature images within the image gallery in the book.
TouchText:
TouchText is a typeface inspired by the tactile principles of Braille, designed to bridge accessibility
and create a tactile experience. Built on a six-cell grid system, its rounded uppercase letters echo the softness of Braille dots, with cutouts in select glyphs like M, T, and Q enhancing visual clarity. The lowercase integrates the Braille alphabet, enabling communication for blind readers. It can be layer-
ed, and/ or embossed to enhance dual reading and tactile experience. TouchText combines visual readability with touchable design, fostering inclusivity through innovative, accessible communication.
